Bartosz Grodecki, head of the National Security Bureau, confirmed that the U.S. views Poland as a model ally. His recent visit to Washington addressed the reinforcement of U.S. troops, the development of NATO 3.0, potential participation in the Nuclear Sharing program, and the creation of a NATO Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Poland.
President Donald Trump originally announced the deployment of an additional 5,000 troops via Truth Social, following his support for Polish President Karol Nawrocki. This announcement occurred after the Pentagon canceled the planned rotation of 4,000 soldiers from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division.
A New Concept for Military Presence
Marcin Przydacz, head of the Presidential International Policy Bureau, confirmed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has upheld the commitment to the additional 5,000 troops. He noted that the canceled rotation of the 4,000-strong brigade should not be conflated with this new deployment, which represents an entirely new concept of American military presence.
Reports from The Wall Street Journal indicate that while Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth considered further troop reductions in Europe, he was stopped following interventions by Marco Rubio and Donald Trump, who criticized the move against a valued ally.
Base Infrastructure and Government Friction
Talks regarding a permanent U.S. base in Poland are ongoing, with a final decision expected within the next 6 to 12 months. Upcoming meetings between President Trump and President Nawrocki are intended to finalize these arrangements.
According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, tensions arose earlier this year due to perceived government inaction on the base proposal. Sources suggest friction occurred because of internal disputes regarding security clearances for personnel tasked with handling the negotiations.
