New Standards for Switching Providers
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has introduced regulations to simplify the process of changing internet and phone providers. These rules replace 2018 legislation to align with the Electronic Communications Law, impacting nearly 2,300 telecommunications companies.
To prevent service interruptions, a new universal identifier for internet access will be used to facilitate smooth transitions between operators. Subscribers can request service continuity, ensuring that moving to a new provider occurs without unnecessary downtime.
Enhanced Information and Processing Deadlines
Operators must now provide clear confirmation of service change requests, including submission dates and contact details. This measure addresses current difficulties customers face when trying to reach support teams through limited channels like online chats.
Strict processing timelines have been established. Depending on whether a request is made at a service point or via remote channels, operators must handle mobile internet requests within six hours or three business days, and fixed-line internet within one or five business days.
Protection for Email Addresses and Phone Numbers
Subscribers will retain the right to maintain operator-linked email addresses after ending an internet contract, preventing the loss of critical identifiers used for banks and public services. Additionally, mobile number transfers will be restricted to the 00:00 to 06:00 window to minimize disruption.
Customers also gain the right to withdraw from a provider change request up to two business days before the scheduled completion date. Furthermore, a new provision allows subscribers to request a number change if they are subjected to persistent, intrusive calls.
