Another Law and Justice MP Leaves Mateusz Morawiecki’s Association to Return to Party Ranks

PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek announced that MP Grzegorz Lorek has resigned from Mateusz Morawiecki’s association and returned to Law and Justice, as internal pressures mount on the party’s right wing.

Resignation and Return to PiS

“MP Grzegorz Lorek is another parliamentarian who has resigned from Mr. Morawiecki’s association and is returning to PiS, submitting the required declaration,” announced PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek on X, adding that unity and political activity are key to electoral success while right-wing conflicts only benefit Donald Tusk.

The Ultimatum from Jarosław Kaczyński

Grzegorz Lorek was among 37 PiS MPs who initially refused to sign leadership declarations barring membership in other political associations. The requirement stemmed from tensions between Jarosław Kaczyński and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s circle after the launch of the Rozwój Plus association in April, culminating in an ultimatum from Kaczyński giving members a choice between the party and the association.

Party Exclusions and Internal Conflict

While the Morawiecki faction resisted the deadline, Jarosław Kaczyński confirmed that a group of politicians left the party, though Morawiecki’s allies maintain they never quit PiS and claim internal “intriguers” are attempting to push them out. The PiS spokesperson did not specify the exact date when Grzegorz Lorek submitted his declaration.

Current Status of the Morawiecki Faction

The group aligned with Morawiecki currently numbers 36 former PiS MPs following Lorek’s departure, alongside three MPs who ran on PiS lists without party membership, one senator, and three MEPs. Daniel Obajtek had previously withdrawn from the association.
