Another Unexploded Ordnance Found in Central Warsaw Amid Tramway Repairs

Traffic is blocked and bomb disposal experts have arrived after a World War II artillery shell was discovered at Al. Solidarności 93 in Warsaw.

Discovery of the Ordnance and Traffic Blockades

An unexploded ordnance was found at Al. Solidarności 93, prompting police to block traffic between Plac Bankowy and Al. Jana Pawła II. Asp. Jakub Pacyniak of the downtown police department stated to the Polish Press Agency before 4:00 PM that authorities were awaiting the arrival of bomb disposal experts, who arrived at the scene before 5:00 PM.

Security Measures and Public Transit Diversions

Police decided against evacuation, instead cordoning off the area with police tape and securing it with officers. The Municipal Transport Authority announced that bus lines 190 and Z26 were rerouted onto detour paths.

Lines 190 and Z26 toward CH Marki/Bielańska are operating via Al. Solidarności, Al. Jana Pawła II to ONZ Roundabout, Świętokrzyska, and Marszałkowska through Plac Bankowy back to Al. Solidarności. In the direction of Znamian/Zajezdnia Wola, they travel via Plac Bankowy, Marszałkowska, Królewska, Grzybowska, and Al. Jana Pawła II to Al. Solidarności.

Second Wartime Shell Found on Al. Solidarności in Recent Days

This incident marks the second unexploded ordnance found on Al. Solidarności in recent days during ongoing tramway track renovation works. The previous item was discovered on Tuesday near Al. Solidarności 95/99.

Pyrotechnic and explosive ordnance reconnaissance officers dispatched to the scene identified the object found by workers as a World War II artillery shell. Bomb disposal experts removed the unexploded ordnance during that previous incident, which also resulted in temporary street closures.
