The August Long Weekend Schedule
We are accustomed to saying “maj贸wka” or “czerc贸wka,” and now the time has come for “sierpni贸wka”鈥攖he long August weekend with varying days off depending on the operations of a given company, institution, or office. Some will have August 14, August 15, and August 16 off, while others will have August 15, August 16, and August 17 off, all depending on employer decisions or the Prime Minister, as written below.
Significance of August 15
On August 15 in Poland, two solemn holidays are celebrated simultaneously: the state Armed Forces Day and the church’s Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, colloquially known as Our Lady of Herbalism. Thus, on August 15, on the anniversary of the victorious Battle of Warsaw, we celebrate Armed Forces Day, and on this occasion, patriotic celebrations, festivals, picnics, and cultural events will be organized across the country.
Armed Forces Day Celebrations
According to the Ministry of National Defense, celebrations of the Armed Forces Day with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense and the command staff of the Polish Armed Forces will take place from August 13 to 16. On August 15, the Polish Armed Forces will present themselves at a ceremonial parade on the Warsaw Vistula Boulevards, featuring modern land and air equipment, as well as a naval parade in Gdynia. The celebration also includes dozens of open events across the country from August 13 to 16, featuring a reconstruction of the 1920 Battle of Warsaw, equipment displays, military zones, meetings with soldiers, military band concerts, and military pea soup.

Changes to Polish Post Operating Hours
According to the Polish Post, Saturday, August 15, is Armed Forces Day and the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, resulting in modified operating hours for Polish Post branches. On Friday, August 14, postal branches will be open until 10 PM at the latest, including 24-hour branches, with the exception of the branch at 31/33 艢wi臋tokrzyska Street in Warsaw, which is scheduled to operate until midnight.
Closures on Saturday, August 15
On the holiday Saturday, August 15, postal branches will be closed. On August 16, postal branches that are also open on non-trading Sundays will resume standard operating hours, and 24-hour branches will open between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, with current information on individual branch hours available on the website placowki.poczta-polska.pl.
