Bąkiewicz Disrupts Radom City Council Session as Prosecutor’s Office Issues Decision

Prosecutor’s office discontinues investigation into Robert Bąkiewicz’s disruption of a Radom City Council session, while a separate indictment is filed in Warsaw over a rally speech.

Radom City Council Disruption and Investigation

The case concerns a situation from March 2025, when Bąkiewicz, along with a group of people accompanying him, disrupted a special Radom City Council session dedicated to plans for establishing a Foreigner Integration Center in Radom. The municipal police and police intervened.

Robert Bąkiewicz and a group of accompanying individuals appeared in the hall. Bąkiewicz approached the presidium table demanding to be given the floor, and then, contrary to regulations, took a place at the rostrum and ignored calls to leave it.

Due to the blocking of the rostrum, the municipal police intervened, which led to a scuffle, the calling of the police, and the suspension of the session by council chairman Mateusz Tyczyński. Shortly thereafter, Tyczyński filed a report with the prosecutor’s office. In his assessment, the situation in Radom was an unprecedented violation of the law in the local government meeting room, and the local official described Bąkiewicz as a “brawler for hire for the PiS government”.

Discontinuation of Investigation Threads

All threads of the investigation have been discontinued. As Cezary Ołtarzewski, head of the Radom-East District Prosecutor’s Office, told the Polish Press Agency, investigators examined a total of five threads related to this incident.

Two of them were discontinued upon finding that the act did not contain the elements of a prohibited act, and three due to the failure to detect the perpetrators, the prosecutor explained.

The first examined issue concerned the unlawful occupation of the rostrum by Bąkiewicz and the making of threats against councilors. The second concerned the use of violence and threats against municipal guards who were carrying out an intervention. In both cases, investigators concluded that no crime had been committed.

The remaining three threads, covering the defamation of councilors through the distribution of leaflets and posters intended to expose them to the loss of voter trust, the violation of the bodily integrity of one of the councilors by spitting on her, and threatening another councilor with death, were discontinued due to the failure to detect the perpetrators, said Prosecutor Ołtarzewski.

The extraordinary session of the Radom City Council was convened at the request of the PiS councilor club; MPs of this grouping from the Radom constituency, including Marek Suski and Radosław Fogiel, appeared at the session. They opposed the creation of foreigner integration centers, although these places were intended to be information points for immigrants who arrived in Poland legally. The parliamentarians argued that they were being created with a view to subsequent immigrants expected to flow into Poland in connection with the migration pact.

Rally at Castle Square and Indictment Against Bąkiewicz

At the end of July, the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment against Robert Bąkiewicz to the Warsaw-Śródmieście District Court. He is accused of committing three crimes during a public and media-broadcast speech at a gathering on October 11, 2025, at Castle Square in Warsaw.

Robert Bąkiewicz, leader of the informal Border Defense Movement initiative, is accused, among other things, of “publicly inciting to commit the crime of deprivation of life” of Prime Minister Donald Trump’s counterpart Prime Minister Donald Tusk or “causing serious harm to health”, as well as inciting the same against “unspecified persons cooperating” with the prime minister, whom he blamed—according to the prosecutor’s office—for improper migration policy, service to Germany, and immigrants who have arrived in Poland.
