A bear was spotted in Przemyśl on Thursday evening, June 19, with footage of the incident circulating on social media. Mayor Wojciech Bakun confirmed the sighting, stating that authorities were alerted and were working on the ground while urging residents to exercise caution.
The Przemyśl City Hall confirmed receiving reports overnight and immediately notified the Crisis Management Department. Police and municipal guards were dispatched to the scene, locating the animal near Unii Brzeskiej Square.

Officers monitored the bear’s route through the city to prevent it from posing a threat to the public. By securing the area and guiding the animal, law enforcement ensured its safe departure from the built-up urban environment and return to the nearby forest.
Political Reactions
Konfederacja Korony Polskiej MP Andrzej Zapałowski shared several videos of the bear running through Grunwaldzka Street and the Market Square. The MP utilized the event to criticize the Ministry of Climate and Environment, warning that such incidents involving bears and wolves are likely to escalate.

City officials have appealed to the public to remain cautious if they spot wild animals near residential areas. Authorities emphasized that individuals should never approach, attempt to scare, or provoke a bear, as such actions can trigger aggression.
The Tatra National Park advises that in the event of a sighting, one should not panic but maintain a safe distance and withdraw slowly. The animal will generally calm down if the human manifests a clear intent to leave the area.
Residents are advised to retreat to a safe distance and report the sighting to the proper services. Reports should be made immediately by calling the 112 emergency line or the Przemyśl Municipal Crisis Management Center at 16 676 70 70.
