Breakthrough in US Troop Presence: Poland Prepares for Permanent Base

The Polish Council of Ministers has passed a resolution authorizing the Minister of National Defense to initiate the necessary logistics, infrastructure, and financial preparations to establish a permanent US military base.

Government Resolution on US Military Infrastructure

Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka announced the adoption of a resolution empowering the Minister of National Defense to move forward with plans for a permanent American military presence. The government is now tasked with detailed organizational and logistical preparations.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that establishing a permanent base is a significant undertaking. The state must secure the necessary financial, housing, and structural conditions to accommodate incoming American forces in alignment with U.S. President Donald Trump’s commitments.

Long-term Strategic Goals

Szłapka noted that successive Polish governments have consistently sought to move from a rotational to a permanent allied military presence. This bipartisan effort reflects a strategic priority to solidify long-term defense cooperation with the United States.

Earlier, the National Security Council Committee met to discuss the specific financial and infrastructure guarantees required to increase the American military footprint. These discussions follow high-level diplomatic exchanges, including ongoing talks between Polish leadership and U.S. officials regarding the deployment of an additional 5,000 troops.

Diplomatic Engagements and Planning

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that an official proposal for the new base was submitted to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in early June. Polish leadership plans further consultations to coordinate the next steps in this defense initiative.
