Buried Abroad Without Family Knowledge: The Tragic End to Piotr Kuśmirek’s Disappearance

Following a months-long search, the family of a missing 47-year-old Polish man learned he died in a March 2025 accident in Slovakia and was buried there without their knowledge.

Disappearance of Piotr Kuśmirek

The man went missing on March 1, 2025, after leaving his family home around 2:00 PM to head to the station for a train to Warsaw, but he never arrived at his home in Ząbki near Warsaw.

According to the “Zaginął Piotr Kuśmirek” social media profile, he likely used public transport from Warsaw toward Poland’s southern border, with his mother being the last person to see and speak with him.

Last Traces in Poland and Slovakia

The 47-year-old was last located in Poland in the village of Kamienica, Silesian Voivodeship, with his family unaware of his destination’s purpose.

The Wołomin County Police Headquarters reported that he made several ATM withdrawals at a Warsaw shopping mall around 5:30 PM before heading toward the southern border, with the final trace of the missing man recorded on March 9, 2025, in Slovakia.

Tragic Discovery and Burial Notification

On Sunday, July 19, relatives shared news on social media that search efforts for Piotr had officially ended, revealing they learned in June that he died in a Slovakian accident on March 13, 2025, and was buried in a local cemetery, while recent efforts officially declared him deceased.

Although the man’s body was found shortly after his disappearance, Aspirant Staff Aneta Nasiłowska of the Wołomin County Police Headquarters explained to Gazeta.pl that genetic testing was required for the Slovak side to identify him through the National Police Headquarters’ international cooperation office and inform the family.
