A Warsaw city bus on line 186 collided with a tram and nine additional vehicles over a kilometer-long stretch on Sunday evening before finally coming to a halt inside an underground pedestrian passage.

Sequence of Collisions
The incident began around 6:22 p.m. at the intersection of Gr贸jecka and Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 roku streets in Warsaw鈥檚 Ochota district. After striking a line 14 tram, the bus continued its journey, hitting nine cars waiting at a traffic light and later colliding with another vehicle near Aleje Jerozolimskie.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop at the Rondo Zes艂a艅c贸w Syberyjskich and West Station area, ending up on the stairs leading into a pedestrian tunnel after striking the structure with significant force.
Injuries and Emergency Response
At least six people were injured during the spree of collisions. Two individuals, including a woman with a pelvic injury and a child with head lacerations, were transported to the hospital, while four others sustained minor injuries.
Emergency services, including police and 14 fire brigade units, secured the site and the damaged bus. Firefighters assessed the scene, including the safety of the vehicle’s gas installation, to prevent further hazards.
Investigation Into Technical Failure
Official causes for the crash remain under investigation. While the bus driver reported difficulties in stopping the vehicle, transport officials are investigating a potential steering system failure as a primary hypothesis.
Police confirmed that the driver was sober and tested negative for drugs. A full analysis of the vehicle鈥檚 technical condition and onboard data recorders will be necessary to determine the sequence of events and the driver’s level of control.
Traffic and Transport Disruption
The accident caused significant traffic paralysis near the West Station and Rondo Zes艂a艅c贸w Syberyjskich. Warsaw Public Transport redirected 14 bus lines to bypass the affected area while emergency crews conducted their investigation.
