Charges Filed in Death of Biały Dunajec Firefighter

Prosecutors have charged one individual with involuntary manslaughter and causing physical harm following a fatal brawl at a volunteer fire department station in Biały Dunajec that claimed the life of a 25-year-old firefighter.

The Incident and Legal Proceedings

The case involving the death of a 25-year-old firefighter from Biały Dunajec has reached a new stage. On Thursday, the prosecutor’s office announced that charges have been filed against one participant in the brawl that resulted in the victim’s death.

The incident occurred on the night of August 1 to 2, 2024, at the Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) station in Biały Dunajec. Following the altercation, the victim, Paweł Ziętkowicz, was rushed to a hospital in Nowy Targ in critical condition and died several days later. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be a subdural hematoma.

Suspect Status and Precautionary Measures

Justyna Rataj-Mykietyn, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz, confirmed that the suspect, identified as Władysław M., has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and causing moderate bodily harm. He remains the only person charged in connection with this case.

Władysław M. did not admit to the allegations and refused to provide testimony. The prosecutor has imposed non-custodial preventive measures, including police supervision, a travel ban, and a financial surety of 10,000 PLN.
