Confederation Spokesperson: Senate Pact Without Braun Is Doomed to Failure

Speaking on Radio ZET, Confederation spokesperson Machulski stated that a right-wing Senate pact without Grzegorz Braun is destined to fail, while adding that there is currently an interregnum on the right.

Right-Wing Senate Pact and President Nawrocki

During a Thursday appearance on Radio ZET, Machulski emphasized that right-wing groupings are considering participation in a joint Senate pact for the upcoming elections, which is no secret. According to Machulski, such a Senate pact will likely be proposed by President Nawrocki. He stressed that Jarosław Kaczyński himself would very much like to host the Senate pact, but must realize that it will not work out that way, explaining that the PiS leader is no longer the leader on the right.

The Confederation spokesperson added with irony that Kaczyński might reach an agreement with Marek Woch, congratulating him on successfully bringing very influential people on board.

Interregnum on the Right and PiS Domination

Machulski stated that there is currently no leader on the right, describing it as an interregnum and a very advantageous situation. He suggested that Karol Nawrocki could potentially act as a creator of a Senate agreement precisely because he is above party and parliamentary games.

He also noted that the end of PiS domination opens an opportunity for the ideological right, meaning Confederation, adding that they recognize this opportunity, though it requires favorable circumstances and a great deal of hard work.

Grzegorz Braun’s Role in the Senate Pact

The Confederation spokesperson stated that although he does not agree with some of Grzegorz Braun’s views, a right-wing Senate pact without him is doomed to failure because such a pact requires securing the top result.

Assessment of President Karol Nawrocki

Machulski evaluated Karol Nawrocki’s presidency so far, stating that he is better than Andrzej Duda primarily because he is the first to veto tax-hiking bills, which is a consequence of his prior commitments. He added that Nawrocki even vetoes too little, noting that if Sławomir Mentzen were president, he would veto more, but acknowledged that Nawrocki has the courage to issue vetoes. According to the spokesperson, Nawrocki stems from a specific political environment but is ambitious enough to play that environment.

Confederation’s Prospects and Potential Post-Election Split

Gazeta Wyborcza reports that Confederation is already preparing for next year’s parliamentary elections, with the game revolving around whether the National Movement or New Hope secures more mandates, which could dictate the fate of a potential government coalition.

The outlet notes that Confederation could split after the 2027 elections because its leaders hold differing views on entering a potential coalition, emphasizing that if Bosak has more MPs, he will push for a coalition with PiS.
