Czarnek Calls to Halt Ukraine Aid; Defense Minister Warns of Security Risk

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has sharply criticized opposition candidate Przemysław Czarnek’s proposal to cease military and reconstruction funding for Ukraine, labeling the stance a direct threat to national security.

Czarnek’s Call to End Aid

Przemysław Czarnek, the Law and Justice party’s candidate for prime minister, stated on Telewizja Republika that Poland must force the European Union to stop financing Ukraine’s defense and rebuilding efforts. He conditioned future support on Ukraine adopting what he described as pro-human values.

Kosiniak-Kamysz Rebuts Opposition Policy

Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz responded during a Tuesday press conference, emphasizing that the Russian invasion remains active. He noted that while Russian forces continue to bombard Kyiv and strengthen their position, the largest opposition party has performed a complete U-turn in its strategic stance.

Security Risks and NATO Commitments

Kosiniak-Kamysz argued that calls to withdraw support for Ukraine undermine both NATO and the alliance’s leader, the United States. He described Czarnek’s rhetoric as a clear violation of the resolutions established at the NATO summit regarding the collective commitment to assist Ukraine.

Defending Polish Strategic Interests

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Ukraine’s victory is a fundamental Polish state interest, as it keeps Russian forces away from Poland’s borders. He concluded by contrasting the government’s current security strategy with the opposition’s proposed path, which he warned exposes Poland to unnecessary danger.
