Czarnek Strikes at Morawiecki: Former Prime Minister Long Planned a Split

During a press conference in Świnoupsis on Friday, Przemysław Czarnek stated that Mateusz Morawiecki had long planned to build a new political party and has convinced over thirty MPs to join his project.

Czarnek: Morawiecki Planned a Split for a Long Time

During a Friday press conference in Świnoupsis in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Przemysław Czarnek stated that at the end of April he participated in a conversation with Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki, during which the former prime minister argued for over two hours that he must create a new political party.

Czarnek explained that he told Mateusz Morawiecki at the time that it made no sense, arguing that while winning over the electorate from the left side of the political scene was possible, doing so from within the shared boat of PiS would be significantly more effective and offer the opportunity to defeat Tusk, adding that Morawiecki accepted this reasoning for some time.

PiS Leadership Calls the Bluff on Rozwój Plus Association

The PiS politician added that a week ago the Political Committee Presidium of PiS said “I check” and revealed the true face of the project called the Rozwój Plus association, which is the creation of a new political party.

Czarnek stated that the matter is now a foregone conclusion, noting that they are dealing with a split and splitters whom he must call by name, despite them being his colleagues with whom he previously collaborated brilliantly in many cases and would like to work with in the future.

He stated that Morawiecki had long ago pursued a project to build another political party, noting that his personal and individual ambitions for the future did not fit within Law and Justice, and expressed regret that he convinced over thirty MPs to join his project while adding that PiS is moving forward and fulfilling its goals.

Split in PiS Following Ultimatums on Political Associations

On Friday, July 24, a split occurred in Law and Justice as the final outcome of a weeks-long dispute surrounding political associations, after the party leadership demanded under threat of exclusion that activists withdraw from associations such as Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus or Jacek Sasin’s Po pierwsze Polska by Thursday, July 23. Jacek Sasin announced the end of his association’s activity almost immediately, while Mateusz Morawiecki consistently refused.

At noon, Jarosław Kaczyński announced that over 30 MPs had resigned their membership in PiS, with the decision to be formally approved on Tuesday by the party’s political committee. Two hours later, Morawiecki held his own press conference to inform that he is backed by 40 MPs, a senator, and three MEPs, speaking of an intrigue surrounding the ultimatum on associations and insisting he acted in good faith until the end, though he did not directly answer questions about the formation of a new party and left an opening for reconsideration before the Tuesday meeting of the PiS political committee.
