Drunk Driver Arrested After Crashing Stolen Car in Wołomin

A 57-year-old wanted man from Mrągowo was arrested by Wołomin police after stealing a vehicle in Ząbki, crashing it into a utility pole while intoxicated, and attempting to flee on foot.

The Incident and Pursuit

On July 9, the Wołomin District Police Headquarters received a report of a stolen Peugeot in Ząbki. Officers immediately broadcast the vehicle’s description to all patrols and launched an intensive search to locate the suspect and recover the car.

Investigation revealed the suspect drove the stolen vehicle toward Kobyłka, where he lost control and struck a telecommunications pole. After abandoning the damaged car, he attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by the Wołomin Traffic Department.

Criminal Record and Charges

Upon verifying the 57-year-old’s credentials, police discovered he was subject to a judicial driving ban and was a wanted fugitive facing a prison sentence. Breathalyzer tests confirmed he was highly intoxicated, recording 0.98 mg/l of alcohol in his system.

After sobering up in detention, the man admitted to vehicle theft, driving under the influence, and violating a court-ordered driving ban. He has been transferred to a penitentiary facility to serve his prior sentence, with additional penalties for these new crimes pending.

Legal Consequences

The suspect faces the prospect of further imprisonment, a potential lifetime driving ban, and mandatory restitution payments to the Justice Fund for victims and post-penitentiary assistance.
