Drunk Driver with 2.5 Permils and Eight Bans Released by Court

A 33-year-old driver with nearly 2.5 promils of alcohol in his system and eight active driving bans was released by a court in Czeladź, sparking a planned prosecutorial appeal.

Drunk Driver Detained in Czeladź

The incident occurred on the night of August 2 to 3 in Czeladź, Silesian Voivodeship. Testing revealed that the 33-year-old was driving under the influence of alcohol, having nearly 2.5 promils in his system. It also turned out that the man possessed eight active driving bans, including six lifetime ones issued by courts in Sosnowiec, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Jaworzno, and Będzin.

Court Rejects Arrest Request

The man has already been charged with driving a car while intoxicated under conditions of recidivism and failing to comply with driving bans. Police, in agreement with the prosecutor, submitted a motion to the District Court in Czeladź to apply temporary arrest for the 33-year-old, but the court did not grant this request.

Prosecution Plans Appeal

The decision of the court in Czeladź is not final. The prosecutor’s office intends to submit an appeal against its ruling to the Regional Court in Sosnowiec. District Prosecutor in Będzin Monika Jankowska stated that the case speaks for itself, noting that the man completely disregards the legal order and poses a threat to road traffic participants.

Police Issue Warnings

Police once again remind the public that driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most serious threats to road safety, alongside the conscious disregard of final court judgments and driving bans, as highlighted on the website of the County Police Headquarters in Będzin.

Driving while intoxicated and defying a court driving ban carries a penalty of up to 5 years of deprivation of liberty. Officers emphasized that anyone who decides to get behind the wheel after drinking puts not only their own life and health at risk, but also those of other road users.
