Early Presidential Election in Kraków Set for September 27, 2026

The Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration has drafted a decree scheduling early presidential elections in Kraków for Sunday, September 27, 2026, pending review by the National Electoral Commission.

Draft Decree Issued for Kraków Elections

“Early mayoral elections for the city of Kraków in the Lesser Poland voivodeship are hereby ordered. The date of the early elections is set for Sunday, September 27, 2026,” reads an excerpt from the Prime Minister’s draft decree prepared by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration. First, however, it must be reviewed by the National Electoral Commission, leading to the document being sent to the head of the National Electoral Office, Rafał Tkacz.

Tusk Aims to Announce Date on Friday

Tomasz Szymański, Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, requested the National Electoral Commission’s position by July 30 at 1:00 PM, as the decree is scheduled to be announced no later than August 5, 2026. Donald Tusk specified during a Wednesday press conference that he intends to issue it earlier—on Friday, July 31.

Delay of the Kraków Elections

Under the Electoral Code, early presidential elections in Kraków should take place within 90 days of the announcement of the referendum results that recalled Aleksander Miszalski. However, Donald Tusk warned in June that the date “might shift slightly” due to the need to resolve electoral protests, noting on June 9 that the most likely timeframe would be September, specifically the second half of the month.
