Emergency Services Raid Private Property Near Warsaw Over Hazardous Liquid Waste Dumping

On August 7 in Milęcin, emergency services and environmental inspectors launched a major operation at a private property where thousands of liters of hazardous liquid waste may have been poured directly into the ground.

Major Operation Underway in Milęcin

In Milęcin, Pruszków County, services are conducting a large-scale operation on a private property where a large amount of hazardous liquid waste was accumulated. Police officers, a prosecutor, environmental protection inspectors, and numerous fire department units, including specialized chemical units from Warsaw, are working at the site. According to unofficial information, part of the substances may have been poured directly into the ground.

The action took place today, August 7, in the village of Milęcin in Pruszków County. Numerous services appeared on a private property. In addition to police officers and the prosecutor, environmental protection inspectors, firefighters from Pruszków County, and specialized chemical rescue units from Warsaw are working at the scene.

Official Statements and Police Cooperation

At this stage, the police are providing only very limited information regarding the ongoing operations. “Police officers are carrying out activities under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, so please direct all inquiries to the prosecutor’s office,” we were told at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters. The nature of the ongoing activities was not specified.

Witness Accounts of Illegal Dumping

At the scene, we spoke with witnesses and individuals who declare that they have known the situation related to this property for a long time. Their accounts indicate that hazardous substances had been gathered there previously.

According to our interviewees, individuals staying on the property recently acquired a small excavator, which was used to dig ditches and pits on the property. Subsequently, the accumulated substances were allegedly poured into them.

According to unofficial information obtained at the scene, the individuals on the property were allegedly caught in the act precisely during such activities. The amount of liquid estimated by our interviewees that could have gone directly into the ground just today may amount to several thousand liters.

However, at this stage, this is unofficial information that requires confirmation by those conducting the proceedings.

Unverified Reports and Arrests

Our interviewees also claim that the waste was brought to the property by trucks from across Poland’s western border. We have not been able to officially confirm this information so far either.

At least one person has been detained in connection with the case. We saw a person in police handcuffs at the scene. According to accounts from people present in Milęcin, however, the case may involve a larger group—our interviewees spoke of four or five people. The information regarding the number of detainees has also not been officially confirmed so far.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Updates

The services’ operation continues despite the late hour. Firefighters are carrying out activities related to the substances that ended up in the ground. Some of the work is being performed manually. Hundreds of liters of liquid waste that were poured out on the property are being removed.

The scale of the operations and the presence of specialized chemical units indicate that the services are treating the situation very seriously. At the same time, at this stage, there is still no official information regarding the exact type of accumulated substances, their origin, or the full scale of potential soil contamination.
