Fatal Crash Near Szczytno: Unlicensed 17-Year-Old Killed

A 17-year-old driver without a license died on Monday night following a head-on collision on National Road 58 near Zielonka in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

The Incident and Emergency Response

The Szczytno County Police received a report of a head-on collision between two passenger vehicles shortly before 10:00 PM. Emergency services arrived at the scene but were unable to resuscitate the 17-year-old driver of the Audi, who was a resident of the Szczytno municipality.

Following the accident, two passengers from the Audi—a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old—fled the scene and returned to their homes. Police located both individuals and transferred them to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Status of Passengers and Investigation

In total, four passengers aged 16, 19, 21, and 33 were traveling in the Audi. Law enforcement confirmed that all passengers were intoxicated. Authorities are still investigating whether the driver was also under the influence of alcohol, pending final toxicology results.

The Audi, owned by one of the passengers, was fully insured and held a valid technical inspection. National Road 58 remained temporarily blocked while police continued to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the crash.

The Second Vehicle Involved

The second vehicle was driven by a 44-year-old woman from the Kętrzyn district. She was traveling with three passengers aged 40, 52, and 54. Two of these passengers required hospitalization. All occupants of the second vehicle were confirmed to be sober.
