Firefighters Battle Blaze at Their Own Station, Fire Truck Damaged

The fire department in Witnica suffered significant losses early Tuesday morning when a fire broke out in their garage, destroying part of the building and damaging a firefighting vehicle.

The Incident in Witnica

The Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Szczecin, alongside the local Witnica Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) and regional media, confirmed the incident. The Gryfino County Fire Headquarters received the alarm regarding the fire in the station’s garage bay at 4:15 a.m.

Emergency Response and Damage

Eight units, including teams from OSP Moryń, OSP Mieszkowice, and the Gryfino Fire and Rescue Unit, arrived at the scene. The fire, which consumed approximately 15 square meters, destroyed the cabin of a medium-sized fire truck and damaged the garage interior.

Operational Impact and Investigation

Witnica firefighters expressed their shock on social media, describing the night as a tragedy. The damage to the vehicle severely limits the unit’s operational capabilities for future firefighting efforts in the county. Police are currently on-site, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Messages of support have poured in for the affected station. Andrzej Wiśniewski, former head of the Municipal Crisis Management Center in Gryfino, expressed solidarity with the Witnica team, emphasizing the collective support of the firefighting community during this difficult time.
