“He Saw the Devil in Her”: Murder Suspect’s Bizarre Defense in Warsaw

Warsaw police discovered the advanced-decomposition body of a 53-year-old woman in a shopping bag during a weekend apartment check, leading to a murder charge for a 32-year-old suspect.

Body Found in Advanced State of Decomposition

Police officers found the body of a 53-year-old woman over the weekend. As police reported on Monday, August 3, this occurred during police assistance provided at the entrance to an apartment, and the corpse was already in an advanced state of decomposition. The perpetrator placed the body in a large shopping bag.

Piotr Skiba added that officers were assisting the former partner of the apartment owner on Słupecka Street in Old Ochota. The owner had told the woman not to come to his home because something bad had happened inside.

Suspect Admits to Murder and Faces Up to 30 Years

This information explains why authorities quickly apprehended the 32-year-old male suspect. Investigators questioned him on Monday, and the man confessed to committing the prohibited act, according to prosecutor Skiba.

Skiba explained that determining the exact date of death is difficult due to the advanced stage of decomposition. Monday’s autopsy also failed to identify the victim, and authorities will use DNA testing and verify sobering station records from that period to establish identity.

Autopsy Reveals Multiple Blunt Force Injuries

The autopsy did reveal the cause of death. The prosecutor described that multiple organ damage, fractured chest bones, and chest injuries were identified, with the perpetrator striking the victim’s chest and face with his hands to cause her death.

Consequently, he was charged with intentional homicide under Article 148, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code, carrying a prison sentence of 10 to 30 years. The prosecutor’s office also requested a three-month temporary arrest, which the District Court for the Capital City of Warsaw granted.
