Health Ministry Orders Probe Into Southern Hospital Following Medical Negligence Claims

Following alarming allegations regarding medical errors, patient deaths, and administrative irregularities at the Southern Hospital, the Ministry of Health has officially commissioned comprehensive inspections by provincial and national authorities.

Investigations Launched into Clinical Practices

The Ministry of Health has ordered the Masovian Voivode and the national consultant in emergency medicine to conduct a formal review. The inspection will assess the quality of medical services, diagnostic procedures, and the standard of care provided to patients at the Emergency Department.

Deputy Minister of Health Katarzyna Kęcka confirmed that the investigation will specifically scrutinize the circumstances surrounding patient deaths that occurred within the department. This decision follows public statements by Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski, a former surgery chief, who alleged systemic medical errors and negligence.

Review of Residency and Administrative Conduct

In a separate action, the Ministry has initiated a review of the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education regarding the residency training of Dawid Kacprzyk. This follows earlier revelations concerning Kacprzyk’s high compensation as the former coordinator of the Emergency Department.

Kęcka noted that multiple proceedings are already underway, including a proprietary audit, a National Health Fund (NFZ) audit, and two separate investigations initiated by the prosecutor’s office concerning potential financial irregularities.

Contested Claims and Hospital Operations

Dr. Jędrzejewski alleged that medical procedures were performed improperly and that some patients were left without adequate care for extended periods, potentially leading to fatalities. He also raised concerns regarding the retroactive updating of medical documentation.

Current staff members have contested these claims. Dr. Piotr Sznek, the current surgery chief, stated he observed no such practices and expressed shock at the allegations. Meanwhile, the broader controversy stems from reports regarding Kacprzyk’s earnings, which reached approximately 1.6 million PLN in 2025, and claims of preferential treatment for political figures at the facility.
