High-Profile Arrest in Lower Silesia: Well-Known Lawyer Detained

Police in Lower Silesia have detained prominent attorney Ernest Z. following a months-long journalistic investigation into alleged financial and professional misconduct.

Police detained well-known Lower Silesian lawyer Ernest Z. The lawyer’s case had been investigated for several months by a TVN24 reporter. According to the station’s findings, some clients allegedly handed money to the attorney for handling cases that later never reached courts or prosecutors’ offices. For now, investigators have not officially informed what charges were presented to the detainee.

The detention took place on Thursday morning. The information was provided by TVN24 journalist Grzegorz Głuszak, who previously dealt with the lawyer’s activities. The case may have several threads, however at the current stage it is unknown which of them are the direct basis for police actions.

Client Relations and Financial Settlements

The most serious findings concern Ernest Z.’s relations with the law firm’s clients. According to TVN24, the lawyer allegedly accepted money for conducting proceedings and then in some cases failed to take the expected steps. The station reached individuals claiming that they received information for a long time that their cases were still being handled, even though in reality they had not been referred to a court or prosecutor’s office.

A separate thread is supposed to concern compensation proceedings. From the reporter’s findings, it appears that the lawyer allegedly concluded settlements, and the money obtained as a result went to his account. It is precisely the character of settlements with clients and the manner of handling entrusted cases that belong to the issues requiring clarification by law enforcement agencies.

This does not mean, however, automatic prejudgment of Ernest Z.’s criminal responsibility. The detention itself is a procedural action and is not equivalent to conviction. TVN24 reported that investigators have not disclosed details regarding the charges so far.

Recording from a Non-Public Proceeding

Another thread described by the station concerns a recording originating from a case in which publicity was excluded. The TVN24 reporter informed the president of the District Court for Wrocław-Krzyki about its existence. According to the material, the recording was allegedly shared by the attorney with unauthorized persons.

The court president decided to notify the prosecutor’s office. It is currently unknown whether this specific proceeding remains in direct connection with the lawyer’s detention.

The case also has a professional dimension. Current rules of legal ethics impose on advocates the obligation to protect information obtained during the exercise of the profession. Information, documents, and materials concerning ongoing cases are covered by secrecy, among other things. The obligation to maintain secrecy is not limited in time.

Multiple Proceedings and Related Matters

TVN24 indicates that individual threads related to Ernest Z.’s activity were the subject of interest of various prosecutor’s offices. It is not excluded that the proceedings will be combined, but no such decision has been announced so far.

The lawyer’s name also appeared in connection with earlier TVN24 materials concerning events in the Karkonosze County. The station described irregularities related to road tenders, which were pointed out by the then Karkonosze starosta Krzysztof Wiśniewski. After publicizing the matter, the local government official became the target of numerous attacks on the internet.

Later, a wave of accusations was also directed against the TVN24 reporter. According to the station, Ernest Z. participated in publishing content targeting the journalist on the internet. The editorial office notified the prosecutor’s office and the District Bar Council about this matter. However, there is currently no confirmation that this thread is one of the bases for the detention.

Professional Accountability and Disciplinary Rules

Regardless of potential criminal proceedings, lawyers are subject to disciplinary liability. The Code of Ethics for Advocates indicates that behavior undermining trust in the bar may be a violation of professional dignity. An advocate should also perform duties honestly, conscientiously, and with due diligence.

The Supreme Bar Council currently publishes the code in a wording taking into account the resolution of the Presidium of the SBC of June 23, 2026. The self-governing regulations also contain the obligation to inform its bodies about presenting an advocate with a charge of committing an intentional crime.

In the case of Ernest Z., it will therefore be crucial to determine what specific procedural decisions the prosecutor’s office and police will make and whether the proceeding will also have disciplinary consequences. Until official information is presented by law enforcement agencies, the guilt of the detainee cannot be prejudged.
