Hołownia rallies allies as Onet reveals backstage of Poland 2050 power struggle

Szymon Hołownia is reportedly maneuvering to rebuild his influence and challenge current leadership in Poland 2050, with potential moves including taking over the parliamentary caucus and entering the government.

Hołownia Moves to Reclaim Influence

Szymon Hołownia may attempt to regain his influence within Poland 2050. According to Onet, the former leader of the grouping is working to take control of the parliamentary caucus, and some portal sources believe he already has enough support to shift the balance of power. His entry into the government is also reportedly in play.

The internal conflict in Poland 2050 is entering a new phase. According to Onet’s findings, Szymon Hołownia has been taking actions for several weeks aimed at rebuilding his own base and limiting the influence of the current party chairwoman, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. Some of the portal’s informants claim that the former leader may already command a majority in the parliamentary caucus.

Uncertainty Over Caucus Control

This does not mean, however, that the change is a foregone conclusion. So far, Hołownia has not succeeded in taking over the leadership of the caucus from Paweł Śliz. According to Onet, the matter could gain momentum again at the beginning of September.

Hołownia’s relations with Pełczyńska-Nałęcz are said to be very poor at present. This is a significant change, as only a few months ago both belonged to the most important figures of the same political circle.

Strategic Divisions Within the Party

Polska 2050 is divided over its future strategy. The dispute is not limited to a personal fight for positions; it also concerns the direction Polska 2050 should follow ahead of the next parliamentary elections.

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz is trying to build a more independent grouping, ready to more strongly emphasize differences with Donald Tusk and the Civic Coalition. Hołownia – according to Onet’s information – is said to lean toward a renewed rapprochement with the Polish People’s Party and political center environments.

The change in his position within the party was visible earlier. At the end of June, Hołownia resigned from his function as vice-chairman of Polska 2050 and stopped leading the National Council. The information about the resignation was subsequently confirmed by Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. The former leader also created an online group called “Moderates”, gathering his supporters.

Potential Return to Government

The most far-reaching variant described by Onet assumes Hołownia’s return to the strict center of power. The politician is said to be ready to enter the government and even take the position of deputy prime minister.

According to the portal’s information, Hołownia could replace Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz in the Council of Ministers, who heads the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy. However, the Ministry of Culture, currently headed by Marta Cienkowska, would supposedly suit him better. Such a variant encounters obstacles, however, because – according to Onet’s interlocutors from the prime minister’s entourage – Donald Tusk is not interested in changing the leadership of this ministry.

A separate issue remains the position of deputy prime minister. Given the current fragmentation of the former Polska 2050 environment, granting it to Hołownia could provoke further personal demands from politicians originating from this grouping.

Background of the Leadership Transition

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz took over the party from Hołownia. The current conflict is a consequence of changes that began much earlier. Hołownia resigned from running for another term as the leader of Polska 2050. After turbulent elections and the necessity to repeat the second round, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz became the chairwoman of the grouping on January 31, 2026.

In March, the party held the “New Opening Congress”, changed its name to Polska 2050 of the Republic of Poland, and removed the founder’s surname from it. At the same time, divisions within the grouping grew, and some parliamentarians left its ranks.

Today Hołownia is the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm. According to Onet, however, he does not intend to limit himself to this function. The coming weeks may decide whether the base he has gathered is sufficient to truly change the balance of power in the caucus. The scenario of taking control of the caucus or Hołownia entering the government remains unofficial at this stage.
