Hungary Revokes Refugee Status for Ziobro and Romanowski

Radosław Sikorski confirmed that Hungary has revoked the refugee status and travel documents of Zbigniew Ziobro, Patrycja Kotecka-Ziobro, and Marcin Romanowski, while the Polish government now prepares to query the United States.

Status Revoked in Hungary

Radosław Sikorski announced on Thursday, July 2, that Hungary has officially rescinded the refugee status previously granted to Zbigniew Ziobro, Patrycja Kotecka-Ziobro, and Marcin Romanowski. Their travel documents have also been invalidated.

The decision follows a shift in Hungarian leadership, with Prime Minister Peter Magyar asserting that Hungary will not serve as a sanctuary for international criminals. Ziobro maintains that he and Romanowski are being persecuted for political reasons, denying any criminal wrongdoing.

Current Whereabouts and US Involvement

Zbigniew Ziobro and his wife have reportedly been residing in the United States since May, allegedly entering with visas approved by Donald Trump, despite reported opposition from other US officials.

The location of Marcin Romanowski remains unclear. Following his departure from Budapest in late May, he was reportedly seen in Serbia and Croatia. Waldemar Żurek confirmed that he has discussed the matter with Serbian authorities to facilitate cooperation.

Polish Government Legal Actions

The Polish government plans to contact US authorities to determine if individuals lacking valid travel documents may continue to reside on American soil. This move comes as courts continue to uphold the legality of arrest warrants related to irregularities in the Justice Fund.
