IMGW Issues Storm and Rainfall Alerts Across Eight Provinces

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued first and second-degree weather alerts for eight Polish provinces, warning of severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and damaging winds starting Monday.

First-degree alerts for storms and hail

A first-degree alert issued for Monday covers the entirety of Podlaskie province, eastern Warmian-Masurian, northern Masovian and Lublin provinces, and the Skierniewice area in Łódź province. Forecasts indicate thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall up to 30 mm, wind gusts reaching 70 km/h, and hail. These warnings are in effect from 4:00 PM until midnight on Monday.

Severe second-degree weather warnings

For Świętokrzyskie, southern parts of Łódź, Masovian, and Lublin provinces, northern Subcarpathian, and northeastern Lesser Poland, the IMGW has issued second-degree warnings. Precipitation levels are expected to reach 40 mm to 60 mm, with local peaks of 80 mm. The storms may bring wind gusts of 60 km/h and small hail, effective from 8:00 PM Monday until 11:00 AM Tuesday.

Extended rainfall and storm warnings

Additional first-degree alerts are in place for the remainder of Subcarpathian province and southeastern Lesser Poland. Expected rainfall ranges from 20 mm to 40 mm, with potential 60 km/h wind gusts and small hail. These alerts remain active from 11:00 PM Monday through 11:00 AM Tuesday.

First and second-degree alerts signify dangerous meteorological phenomena capable of causing significant material damage and posing threats to human life and health. The IMGW notes that due to the localized nature of these events, their intensity may vary significantly even within small areas.
