Unexpected Prosecutor Request and Court Date
An innocent social media post and an altered graphic referencing a popular animated film could end in an exceptionally severe penalty. Investigators have nevertheless taken an unexpected step in the case concerning the public insult of President Karol Nawrocki and the first lady. A local government official faces up to three years of imprisonment, but the course of the proceedings may still change.
The prosecutor’s office in Radomsko filed a motion with the court in Piotrk贸w Trybunalski for the return of the case concerning the insult of President Karol Nawrocki and his wife. The man who allegedly insulted the presidential couple on a social media portal faces three years in prison.
Dorota Mr贸wczy艅ska, deputy spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Piotrk贸w Trybunalski, informed on Wednesday that the Radomsko prosecutor’s office filed a motion on July 16 with the District Court in Piotrk贸w Trybunalski to return the case concerning the insult of the president and his wife to the preparatory proceedings stage.
The Piotrk贸w court has scheduled a date to consider the motion for August 13.
Forensic Linguistics Opinion in the Case File
As 艁ukasz Ociepa, spokesperson for the Piotrk贸w prosecutor’s office, stated earlier, the indictment against the man suspected of insulting President Karol Nawrocki via mass communication means on a social media portal was submitted on June 30, 2026, by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Radomsko to the District Court in Piotrk贸w Trybunalski.
In a conversation with PAP, prosecutor 艁ukasz Ociepa explained at the time that the intentional posting of content within the context of a situational form of expression, combined with sharing a graphic, was considered deprecating to the person holding the office of the president and to his wife.
The basis for the decision made in the case to refer the indictment to the court was the evidentiary material gathered in the case, including the opinion of a court-appointed expert in forensic linguistics admitted in the case, said prosecutor Ociepa.
Shrek Graphic and Severe Penalties
The prosecutor’s office does not disclose who authored the post under investigation. According to the tvn24.pl portal, which cited “Gazeta Radomszcza艅ska,” the investigation concerned the posting in 2025 on a social media portal of a graphic referencing the character Shrek from a popular animated film, and the person covered by the indictment is a Radomsko county councilor from the PSL party.
The councilor allegedly posted an altered photo of Marta Nawrocka in the role of a princess on a social media portal and accompanied it with the comment “And where is Shrek?”.
According to the prosecutor, the offense of public insult of the office of the President of the Republic of Poland is punishable by up to three years of imprisonment.
