Jan Hoffman Enters Kraków Mayoral Race After Leading Referendum

Following Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s decree scheduling early presidential elections in Kraków for Sunday, September 27, local leaders and political figures have officially announced their candidacies.

Early Mayoral Elections Scheduled

Donald Tusk ordered early elections for the president of Kraków to be held on Sunday, September 27. The prime minister’s ordinance was published in the Journal of Laws on Friday and entered into force upon publication. Potential candidates have until August 17 to notify the election commissioner about the creation of an election committee.

Jan Hoffman Launches Independent Committee

Jan Hoffman, chairman of the Stare Miasto district council in Kraków and leader of the referendum group that led to the removal of Miszalski from the town hall, has registered his committee. Named the Jan Hoffman Voters’ Electoral Committee – ReferendumKRK: We Will Fix Kraków, Hoffman describes it as a non-partisan, civic, and grassroots group bringing together residents with diverse views and vast experience.

Hoffman’s Campaign Priorities

Although a detailed election program for repairing Kraków has not yet been finalized, Hoffman outlined his priorities if elected. These include a solid financial and administrative audit, the reinstatement of the 20-minute public transport ticket, and limiting the Clean Transport Zone (SCT) to the strict center within the Planty ring to develop a socially acceptable version in the coming months.

Aleksandra Owca Enters the Race for Razem

On Monday, August 3, Aleksandra Owca of the Razem party announced her candidacy for Kraków’s mayoral election, with a signature collection drive launching that evening. Highlighting her vision during a press briefing, Owca stated she is running to build a Kraków that works for people, addressing housing costs, stable employment, and quality of life for young people.

Transport and Social Policies

Owca’s platform includes creating a cohesive and convenient modern transport system combining trams, buses, trains, bicycle paths, and the metro. Supported by Adrian Zandberg during a conference, Owca’s campaign is positioned as a pro-social push for affordable housing, public transport investments, and fair labor market policies.

The roster of declared candidates for the presidency of Kraków includes former Supreme Audit Office head Marian Banaś, Bartosz Bocheńczak (Confederation), Michał Dwernicki (PiS), Daria Gosek-Popiołek (Left), Jan Hoffman, Michał Klimek (Confederation of the Polish Crown), Aleksandra Owca (Razem Party), Monika Piątkowska (KO, PSL), Sławomir Pietrzyk (Polish Social Democracy), Marta Ratuszyńska (Good Radom grouping), celebrity and former wife of Łukasz Schreiber Marianna Schreiber, Grażyna Zofia Świat (Non-Partisan Local Government Activists of Lesser Poland), and former Kraków councilor Łukasz Wantuch.
