Katarzyna B. Arrested in Germany After Evading Prison for Newborn’s Death

Following an investigation into the 2016 death of a newborn in Radwanice, Katarzyna B. has been apprehended in Germany and returned to Poland to serve her four-year prison sentence.

The Tragedy in Radwanice

The incident occurred on the night of June 30 to July 1, 2016, in the village of Radwanice, Lower Silesia. Investigators determined that the 35-year-old mother, Katarzyna B., gave birth while standing and failed to call for emergency services, causing the newborn to fall to the floor.

According to prosecutors, the woman did not provide assistance to the infant. The body was later moved to a boiler room, where her husband incinerated it in a furnace to help her evade legal responsibility.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Authorities were alerted after a neighbor informed social services that a woman known to be pregnant no longer had a child. When confronted, Katarzyna B. offered conflicting accounts, at one point claiming the baby had been sold to Germany. The remains were ultimately discovered in the furnace and a trash bin.

Both individuals were charged and initially sentenced by the District Court in Głogów in 2017 to two years in prison. In 2018, the Regional Court in Legnica increased their sentences to four years, though the reasoning for the judgments remains confidential.

Arrest and Incarceration

While the husband reported to serve his sentence, a warrant was issued for Katarzyna B. after she failed to comply. She was detained in Germany in June of this year and subsequently extradited to Poland, where she has begun serving her court-ordered prison term.
