Kierwiński Distances Himself from Dawid Kacprzyk Amid Hospital Scandal

Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński has denied prior knowledge of irregularities at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital, asserting that he took decisive action to block Dawid Kacprzyk’s political career within the Civic Coalition.

Defending Internal Oversight

Minister Marcin Kierwiński stated in a TOK FM interview that he was unaware of the pathologies occurring at the Southern Hospital. He defended the Civic Coalition’s response to the unfolding scandal, suggesting that the Law and Justice party would have promoted an individual like Kacprzyk to the position of health minister.

Kierwiński emphasized that he was never a proponent of Kacprzyk, noting he successfully blocked the former councilor’s bid for a seat on the Warsaw City Council. He further clarified that Kacprzyk was never a formal member of the Platform or the Civic Coalition at any regional level.

Blocking Political Ambitions

The minister explained that he actively prevented Kacprzyk from appearing on the 2023 parliamentary candidate list. Following a significant rift within the “Young Democrats” youth organization, leadership decided against having an official youth wing and excluded those involved in toxic internal disputes from the ballot.

Kierwiński noted that during the 2023 campaign, Kacprzyk’s conduct toward other candidates was unacceptable under the internal standards of the Civic Coalition. He added that other party members had previously warned him that this young activist might become a source of future trouble.

Allegations of VIP Privileges and Financial Irregularities

Reports from Zero.pl revealed the existence of an unofficial fast-track admission path at the Southern Hospital for Civic Coalition politicians and their families. Allegations include a dedicated “VIP room” for such figures, while other patients faced significant wait times for medical attention.

Dawid Kacprzyk, a doctor under 30 without a specialization and a former district councilor, served as the coordinator of the hospital’s emergency department. Financial disclosures indicate the physician earned nearly 1.6 million zlotys in a single year through private business activities.

Prosectorium Misconduct and Legal Investigations

The scandal also involves Artur Habowski, the coordinator of the hospital’s morgue, who allegedly pressured grieving families to use the services of his business partner’s funeral home. Habowski reportedly caused difficulties for families who chose other providers and attempted to rent out the hospital morgue for film productions.

The Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office has launched two investigations: one into Dawid Kacprzyk regarding allegations of collecting payment for shifts he did not work, and another into hospital management and potential supervisory negligence by municipal officials. Additionally, investigators are probing the suspected forgery of 20 death certificates at the facility.
