Calls for Diplomatic De-escalation

Lithuanian presidential advisor Asta Skaisgiryte stated on Tuesday, June 23, that fresh efforts are likely required to facilitate dialogue between the presidents of Poland and Lithuania. She noted that a noticeable warming of tensions has occurred on both sides.

Escalation Over State Honors

Last week, Karol Nawrocki announced the withdrawal of the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following his decision to name a military unit after UPA heroes. Subsequently, several Ukrainian figures, including former presidents Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yushchenko, and Petro Poroshenko, renounced their Polish decorations.

Zelenskyy’s Absence at Gdańsk Conference

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not attend the upcoming conference in Gdańsk focused on the reconstruction of Ukraine. Instead, Deputy Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko will represent the country, a decision she confirmed via social media.

Skaisgiryte remarked that the Ukrainian leader’s absence could cast a shadow over the summit, though she emphasized that critical decisions regarding support for Ukraine are still expected to be finalized.
