Massive EU Funding Package Disbursed to Ukraine

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in Gdańsk that a 3.2 billion euro tranche for Ukraine will be disbursed today, followed by 6 billion euros for drone production.

Immediate Financial Support

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed in Gdańsk on Thursday that a first installment of 3.2 billion euros is being released to Ukraine today. Additionally, a further 6 billion euros has been allocated specifically for domestic drone manufacturing.

Unlocking the Funds

The financing, structured as a loan, was enabled after Hungary withdrew its veto. While 3 billion euros of the current disbursement are earmarked for direct budgetary support, the remaining 6 billion euros will be utilized by Kyiv for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Strategic Recovery Initiatives

Speaking at the opening of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026), von der Leyen emphasized that this assistance proves Europe’s enduring commitment to Ukraine. She also called upon international partners to maintain their support, citing the stability of a strong, independent Ukraine as a shared interest.

New Flagship Recovery Fund

The Commission President unveiled the European Flagship Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. Initiated by the EU, Poland, France, Germany, and Italy, the fund aims to mobilize 1 billion euros for strategic investment projects within Ukraine.
