Mid-Air Engine Failure Causes Cabin Decompression on Ryanair Flight

A Ryanair flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Thessaloniki after an engine component detached, shattering a cabin window and causing a partial decompression incident.

Ryanair stated that the aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal. One passenger requested and received medical assistance upon arrival at Thessaloniki Airport. A replacement aircraft was arranged several hours later to transport passengers to Memmingen.

Engine Failure and Cabin Damage

According to Reuters, citing local Greek media and its own sources, part of the aircraft’s engine detached mid-flight and struck a window, shattering the glass. This triggered cabin decompression. The damaged aircraft remains on the tarmac in Thessaloniki pending an investigation.

Eyewitness Accounts of the Incident

Witnesses reported a loud bang shortly after takeoff. One passenger, identified as a Serbian national, was injured when the window shattered. Fellow passengers reportedly helped pull the man back into the cabin; he had been wearing his seatbelt, which prevented him from being fully ejected.

Cabin Response and Medical Care

Oxygen masks deployed as passengers experienced a strong odor and immediate pressure changes. Following the emergency landing, the injured man was transported to a hospital in Thessaloniki for treatment. Radio Thessaloniki has released footage purportedly filmed by a passenger during the flight.
