Military Parade Rehearsal to Shut Down Wisłostrada and Disrupt Warsaw Traffic

Soldiers will conduct rehearsals for the Polish Armed Forces Day parade from August 8 to August 9, resulting in major closures of Wisłostrada, cross streets, bridges, and public transit routes in Warsaw.

Timing and Scope of Closures

The largest disruptions will begin on Saturday, August 8, at 4:00 PM and last until Sunday, August 9, at 11:00 AM. Wisłostrada will be closed from Maria Skłodowska-Curie Bridge to Gagarina Street.

Drivers will not be able to connect to Wisłostrada from the Route AK and Stefan Rowecki “Grot” Bridge, “Solidarność” Avenue and the Silesian-Dąbrowski Bridge, and Poniatowski Bridge. From Czerniakowska Street on the Mokotów side, vehicles can only travel onto the Łazienkowska Route toward the center or onto the Łazienkowski Bridge. Police officers will direct traffic at selected intersections.

Starting at 4:00 PM on Saturday, both roadways of Wisłostrada will close from Maria Skłodowska-Curie Bridge to Łazienkowski Bridge, alongside the Wilanów-bound roadway from Łazienkowski Bridge to Gagarina Street. Drivers will also be barred from Pułkowa Street between Wóycickiego and Maria Skłodowska-Curie Bridge, with closures shifting to Heroldów at 7:30 PM and traffic redirected to Marymoncka.

Affected Streets and Parking Bans

Numerous intersecting streets will be closed to traffic, including sections of Gwiaździsta, Krasińskiego, Krajewskiego, Zakroczymska, Jeziorańskiego, Wenedów, Sanguszki, Mostowa, Boleść, Grodzka, Nowy Zjazd, Bednarska, Karowa, Lipowa, Dobra, Wiślana, Gęsta, Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie, Zajęcza, Tamka, Ludna, Wilanowska, Górnośląska, Łazienkowska, Szwoleżerów, 29 Listopada, Suligowskiego, Nowosielecka, and Hołówki.

An additional parking ban will be in effect from Saturday at 10:00 PM to Sunday at 11:00 AM on Krajewskiego, Zakroczymska, Jeziorańskiego, Wenedów, Sanguszki, Karowa, Lipowa, Dobra, Wiślana, Gęsta, Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie, and the parking lot under the Silesian-Dąbrowski Bridge.

Detours and Air Flight Rehearsals

The primary detour is routed via Modlińska and Jagiellońska streets, followed by Wybrzeże Helskie, Wybrzeże Szczecińskie, and Wał Miedzeszyński. Drivers coming from Łomianki will be directed to Marymoncka Street, with further detours through Słowackiego, Mickiewicza, Andersa, and Marszałkowska streets.

An aircraft flight rehearsal is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, during which traffic on the Gdański Bridge, Silesian-Dąbrowski Bridge, and Magdalena Abakanowicz Footbridge will be entirely halted. If weather conditions prevent the rehearsal, the flight will be postponed to Sunday, August 9, at the same times.

Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Public Transit Impacts

Cyclists will not be able to use the bike lanes along Wisłostrada from Krasińskiego Street to the Silesian-Dąbrowski Bridge. Crossing to the other side of Wisłostrada will be blocked at Krasińskiego, Wenedów, Ludna, and Łazienkowska, and the underground passage near Sanguszki Street will be closed. On Sunday morning, pedestrians and cyclists cannot use the Gdański Bridge.

Bus stops at Most Gdański 53 and 54 as well as Wybrzeże Helskie 01 and 02 will be suspended, with buses crossing the bridge without stopping. On Saturday between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, buses will bypass Gdański and Silesian-Dąbrowski bridges, affecting lines 100, 190, 409, 500, and Z-5 with redirected routes.

Tram Line Changes and Ongoing Preparations

Tram track closures on the Silesian-Dąbrowski Bridge will alter tram routes. On the Praga side, lines 1 and 76 will run to Ratuszowa-Zoo loop, lines 4, 18, and 20 will go to Dworzec Wschodni, and lines 6 and 28 will travel via Starzyńskiego and 11 Listopada streets. On the left bank of the Vistula, lines 1 and 20 will run to Piaski loop, lines 4, 18, and T will use Andersa and Mickiewicza streets to Marymont-Potok loop, line 6 will turn at Polonia stadium, line 28 will travel via Okopowa, “Solidarność” Avenue, and Jana Pawł II Avenue, and line 76 will use Andersa and Stawki streets to Muranowska stop.

Following the Wisłostrada closure at 4:00 PM, routes will change for daytime bus lines 100, 106, 107, 108, 114, 118, 127, 131, 141, 159, 162, 166, 167, 171, 185, 187, and night lines N14, N16, N33, N64, and N83.

Bleachers and media stands are currently being installed near the Multimedia Fountain Park. Until August 20, the right lane of Wisłostrada toward Wilanów from Sanguszki Street to Boleść remains closed, along with the park-side sidewalk, bike path, and Sanguszki 01 bus stop.
