Military Qualification 2027: Ministry of Defense Prepares Regulations for Next Year

The Polish Ministry of National Defense has prepared draft regulations for the 2027 military qualification, which will run from February 1 to April 30 and cover approximately 245,000 individuals.

Military Qualification 2027: Who Will It Involve?

The draft regulation by the Minister of National Defense for the 2027 military qualification sets its announcement date for January 15, 2027. The qualification itself will last from February 1 to April 30, 2027, with the ministry projecting that approximately 245,000 people will be called up.

What Is Military Qualification?

Military qualification is an annual process aimed at determining the aptitude of Polish citizens for military service and entering their data into the military register. Its main objective is to gather information on the physical and mental health of young people regarding their predisposition for army service. Importantly, the qualification is not a military draft. It is an administrative procedure that concludes with the assignment of a military service capability category, the creation of a military record, the granting of the rank of private, and transfer to the passive reserve.

The military qualification is announced by the voivode in the voivodeship via a proclamation no later than 14 days before its commencement. Individuals subject to the obligation to appear at the military qualification are summoned by commune heads, mayors, or city presidents using summons that must be delivered at least 7 days before the designated appearance date. If an summoned person cannot appear on time for valid reasons, they are obliged to notify the appropriate official no later than on the day they were required to appear, providing the reasons, after which a new date will be set.

How Does the Qualification Process Work?

During a visit to the commission office, the summoned person’s data is entered into the military register, they undergo medical examinations, hold a conversation with a representative of the Military Recruitment Center, and receive a certificate of appearance, regulated military status, and adjudicated service capability.

The military qualification is also an excellent opportunity to learn about the opportunities offered by today’s Polish Armed Forces. Anyone who visits the district medical commission can speak with a representative of the Military Recruitment Center about Voluntary Basic Military Service, Territorial Military Service, or military universities and non-commissioned officer schools, as well as meet soldiers from military units presenting the specifics of service along with individual equipment.

Ignoring the summons to the district medical commission can result in serious legal consequences, including a fine or forced conveyance by the police.

Individuals summoned to the military qualification must bring an identity document, such as an ID card or passport. It is also necessary to present medical documentation, including specialist test results conducted within the 12 months preceding the appearance date. Additionally, applicants must provide a current 3 × 4 cm photograph taken without headwear, as well as documents confirming education, professional qualifications, or a certificate confirming continued schooling.
