Morawiecki Affirms Loyalty to PiS Ahead of Crucial Showdown With Kaczyński

Ahead of his critical meeting with Jarosław Kaczyński on Thursday, former Prime Minister Mateuszu Morawiecki declared his firm commitment to remaining within the Law and Justice party.

Meeting at Nowogrodzka Street

PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek announced that Kaczyński will meet with Morawiecki on Thursday, July 23, at 12 PM at Nowogrodzka Street. The same day marks the expiration of Kaczyński’s ultimatum requiring PiS MPs to submit statements confirming they do not belong to other political associations. The meeting between the two politicians is expected to focus on the former prime minister’s “Rozwój Plus” initiative.

Morawiecki: My Place Is in PiS

Simultaneously, Mateuszu Morawiecki posted on X that the governance of the United Right and the cooperation of various factions within PiS have changed Poland, urging a continuation of the path that brought PiS victory. He added a call to follow the path of consensus, ambition, solidarity, and development, stating in an attached video that he will not allow eight years of major change to be reduced to personal vendettas and internal ambitions.

Shortly before meeting the PiS leader on Thursday, the former prime minister published another video stating that a great patriotic camp remains the best solution for Poland. He emphasized his desire to be part of the team and patriotic camp, stating that his place is there to unite the right, center-right, and solidarity streams to regain a majority, remove the Civic Coalition from power, and restart mechanisms for Poland’s development.

Conflict Over Political Associations Within PiS

Last Wednesday, July 15, the PiS leadership adopted a resolution obliging party members—under threat of expulsion—to resign from associations conducting political activity within the party, specifically targeting Mateuszu Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” and Jacek Sasin’s “Po pierwsze Polska.” The deadline to comply expires on Thursday, July 23. Sasin announced his bloc has ended its activity, while Morawiecki declared his intent to stay in PiS while developing his association, stirring internal tensions and disputes.

On July 17, members of Morawiecki’s association sent a letter to the PiS leader emphasizing their goal of party unity and reconnecting with groups that have drifted away in recent years, bearing the signatures of 45 PiS politicians including MPs, senators, and MEPs. A meeting between Kaczyński and Morawiecki on the same day yielded no resolution, with Kaczyński appealing to PiS politicians for a moment of breath and a sip of cold water, stressing that the enemy is elsewhere.
