Application Submitted to the Sejm Marshal
Lech So艂tys, Director of the Media Relations Bureau of the Sejm Chancellery, informed PAP that the application from politicians grouped around Mateusza Morawiecki regarding the establishment of the Rozw贸j Plus parliamentary club has already been submitted to the Sejm Marshal.
Earlier, Marshal W艂odzimierz Czarzasty stated that he had received information about the formation of a new parliamentary club. He noted that if the club is created and the appropriate document is submitted and checked for formal compliance, it will begin functioning immediately, allowing the new club to be registered for upcoming votes in committees and plenary sessions.
Czarzasty added that potential changes regarding the division of club rooms require calm discussion and that he wants to wait two weeks to ensure that decisions resulting from divisions within PiS maintain their shape. He also reported that individuals joining the new club will automatically cease to be members of the Law and Justice (PiS) club.
Morawiecki Announces New Political Forum
On Wednesday, July 29, Mateusza Morawiecki announced the creation of a new parliamentary club consisting of lawmakers associated with his Rozw贸j Plus association who feel they have been pushed out of PiS. He added that 40 MPs and a senator decided to establish the club, which will serve as a political action forum for the association.
Lawmakers associated with Morawiecki, Krzysztof Szczucki and Pawe艂 Jab艂o艅ski, told journalists in the Sejm that they fulfilled all formalities expected by the Sejm Chancellery, regulations, and customs, confirming that Morawiecki will head the new club.
Commentator Agnieszka Kublik wrote in Wyborcza.pl that although Kaczy艅ski was reportedly supposed to formally expel Morawiecki on Tuesday, he formally extended his PiS membership instead, marking another empty ultimatum from the party leader.
PiS Leadership Responds to the Split
PiS spokesperson Rafa艂 Bochenek stated that the Sejm Marshal will not be able to register the new club for formal reasons, noting that anyone wanting to establish a parliamentary club must first resign from an existing one. Bochenek declared that the party is awaiting formal declarations of resignation from the Law and Justice club by the individuals forming Morawiecki’s new club.
Bochenek also stated that no formal decision has been made yet regarding the exclusion of parliamentarians who joined Morawiecki’s association, as proceedings are ongoing before the party’s disciplinary spokesperson in accordance with internal regulations.
The day prior, the PiS Political Committee approved a list of 44 individuals who failed to timely submit required statements declaring they do not belong to political associations鈥攕pecifically the Rozw贸j Plus association鈥攐r submitted them on the wrong form. The matter was referred to PiS disciplinary spokesperson Karol Karski to handle each case individually and conclude the statutory procedure.
During a Wednesday press conference, Morawiecki described recent events as very strange and completely unnecessary party games within PiS driven by true splitters who want to focus on party life and themselves. He stated that while party procedures are underway regarding politicians linked to his association, they are not interested in them, as he and his associates consider the decision to expel them from PiS to have been made the previous week based on the party leader’s statements.
