Morawiecki on PiS Split: A Healthy Lung Has Been Amputated

Following an ultimatum by PiS leadership regarding association memberships, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that his organization was pushed out and a healthy lung was amputated.

Ultimatum and Association Memberships

At midnight on Thursday, the deadline expired for an ultimatum issued by the PiS leadership to the party’s parliamentarians. By that time, they were required to submit declarations of non-membership in associations, with failure to do so threatening expulsion from the party. This primarily referred to members of the Development Plus association of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Poland First of Jacek Sasin.

On Friday, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced that thirty-odd MPs of his formation had resigned their membership, with the split set to be approved on Tuesday by the PiS Political Committee. Mateusz Morawiecki, whose conference was held later, reported in turn that his association currently has 44 members, comprising 40 MPs, one senator, and three MEPs.

Defense of the Right Wing and Association Goals

The former head of government appeared on Telewizja Republika on Saturday at noon. Mateusz Morawiecki stated that he knows how to win against Donald Tusk and believes it is the most important thing for the entire right wing to develop an appropriate strategy.

The former prime minister also emphasized the necessity of cooperation among right-wing environments, stating that disputes on the right are like family disputes. He added that disputes with the ruling coalition and Donald Tusk’s government represent the defense of Poland against devastation and political vandalism, which is why the Development Plus association was created to unite what was always most important.

Accusations of Party Split and Rejection of Guilt

He stressed that he does not feel guilty about the breakup of PiS, noting that he fought for unity until the last moment and reached out for agreement. He mentioned sending a letter to the leader proposing a common denominator, including changes to the statute of the Development Plus association.

The former prime minister denied Kaczyński’s words claiming that Morawiecki’s actions were directed against the party, pointing out inconsistencies and documents showing readiness to act as a single organization breathing with two healthy lungs. He stated that instead, one healthy lung was amputated and they were pushed out, adding that nothing had changed since April when they presented the two-wing strategy.

Closing Internal Disputes and Focus on the Government

The former prime minister emphasized that he would like to close the topic of internal disputes and focus on activities against the current government. He pointed to scandals in hospitals, a budget deficit, and the Kasprzyk affair occurring around the time the internal quarrel broke out in their camp, questioning the purpose of the conflict.

Mateusz Morawiecki stated that comments seen in some right-wing media should be avoided, as instead of addressing the economy, healthcare crisis, or government errors, time was spent on epithets. He also firmly denied ever being an advisor to Donald Tusk, stating he served on an economic council that the then-prime minister did not utilize.

Denial of Cooperation Speculation

Media speculations regarding possible cooperation between Mateusz Morawiecki and PSL and Poland 2050 were firmly dismissed by the former prime minister. He stated that no such talks have been conducted or are intended to be conducted, adding that anyone who endorses the current government is not a partner for discussion.

He underscored that he resigned from his functions in PiS to show that his actions do not stem from personal ambitions, with his main goal remaining the defeat of Tusk.
