Morawiecki Responds to Kurski After Claims of Acting Under Tusk’s Orders

Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has dismissed accusations from Jacek Kurski that he acted on Donald Tusk’s orders to fracture PiS, while warning of a potential new parliamentary club.

Skepticism Toward Propaganda

Morawiecki also argued that he was skeptical of the role entrusted to Kurski from the start, stating that he never liked that propaganda and voiced his opposition on numerous forums, particularly internal ones. He noted that he also expressed it publicly, which brought him retaliation from Kurski, who portrayed him in a very unfavorable light. Jacek Murański, mentioned by Morawiecki, is a freak fight participant previously imprisoned for assault, who accused Karol Nawrocki of protecting escort agencies during the presidential campaign—statements later cited by Donald Tusk.

Potential New Parliamentary Club

Regarding the internal party crisis, Morawiecki announced that he called a meeting of association members for 8:00 PM the following day, after the PiS Political Committee meeting. He described it as a potentially interesting, important, and turbulent gathering covering substantive, programmatic, conceptual, and operational aspects, adding that they will need to find a formula if they are expelled from the party. He explicitly stated that if they are expelled, they will most likely establish their own parliamentary club.

Ultimatums and Departures

The deadline set by the party leadership passed at midnight on Thursday, July 23, requiring parliamentarians to sign declarations stating they do not belong to other associations, under threat of expulsion. The directive primarily targeted members of the Rozwój Plus Association founded by Morawiecki. The following day, Jarosław Kaczyński announced that over thirty MPs had resigned their membership in the grouping, prompting a scheduled meeting of the PiS Political Committee on Tuesday, July 28, to confirm the developments.

Defense of Two Lungs Strategy

Morawiecki maintained that he wanted to remain in Law and Justice until the very end and continue the strategy of two lungs announced by Jarosław Kaczyński a few months after the former prime minister announced the creation of his association. However, the former prime minister emphasized that they cannot agree to allow a recently agreed strategy to end up in the trash through ultimatums or blackmail.
