Circumstances of the Attack

On Monday, June 15, a 44-year-old Russian artist known by the pseudonym Simon Skrepecki was killed in a shooting in Biała Podlaska. The victim, who was known for his vocal criticism of Russian authorities, sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his head and torso.

The victim had recently performed a protest at the Russian Embassy in Berlin during Russia Day, where he displayed a controversial icon of Stalin and Putin and wiped the street with a Russian flag. Reports indicate he received numerous death threats from “Russian patriots” shortly before his death.

Investigation and Suspects

Authorities detained three Belarusian nationals, aged 33 to 37, in connection with the shooting, which occurred near the Belarusian consulate. However, recent reports indicate that these individuals are no longer considered suspects, and police are continuing their search for the perpetrators.

A special investigative team has been established by the provincial police commander. Investigators have secured surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses who were present at the scene.

Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka stated that the victim had previously been offered state protection but declined it, as he felt he was not in danger. Officials are treating the case with extreme seriousness given the potential security risks to Poland.
