Nawrocki: Ukraine’s EU Accession Poses Risk to Polish Agriculture

President Karol Nawrocki declared during the AgroLiga 2025 gala at the Presidential Palace on Friday that Ukraine’s potential entry into the European Union constitutes a significant threat to Polish farmers.

Concerns Over EU Expansion

Karol Nawrocki addressed the potential enlargement of the European Union to include Ukraine, arguing that such a scenario could harm domestic agricultural producers. The President emphasized his commitment to safeguarding Polish farmers’ interests, specifically regarding the European Green Deal and EU-wide policies, while acknowledging Ukraine’s aspirations.

Nawrocki did not elaborate on the specific conditions that should be met prior to the potential admission of Ukraine into the Community.

Food Security as a Strategic Priority

During the ceremony, Nawrocki addressed farmers and industry entrepreneurs, asserting that food security is as critical to the nation as military, medical, and energy security. He stated that the work of Polish farmers is essential for the future safety and stability of the country.

Opposition to Mercosur Agreement

The President reiterated his criticism of the European Union’s trade agreement with Mercosur nations, describing the terms as disadvantageous for rural Poland. He claimed to have taken action globally to prevent these policies from impacting local agriculture.

Nawrocki reaffirmed that the Presidential Palace remains open to the challenges faced by rural communities. He emphasized his campaign commitment to prioritize the interests of Polish farmers and domestic produce, promising to maintain this focus throughout his term.
