Echoes persist following an unidentified projectile landing 50 km from Lublin. New information regarding the matter was shared on Thursday afternoon by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

As he wrote, the missile that violated Polish airspace on Thursday and landed in the Lublin region was armed and in all likelihood Russian. The head of the Polish government expressed gratitude to all EU and NATO leaders for their solidarity and readiness to help.

Military Detection and Prosecutor’s Investigation

On Thursday at 3:40 AM, an unidentified object was detected in Polish airspace; an F-16 fighter jet was dispatched for its recognition and interception. At 3:46 AM, the object vanished, with its probable crash site located near the town of Tarnawa-Kolonia, according to the Operational Command of the Armed Forces early in the morning.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, conducting the investigation into the matter, reported in the afternoon that the projectile was most likely a Kh-101 missile containing a significant amount of explosive material.

Donald Tusk’s Statements and International Contact

In a subsequently published post in English, the Prime Minister recalled that the missile violated Polish airspace and landed 50 km from the city of Lublin, noting it was armed, likely Russian, and thanking EU and NATO leaders for their solidarity and readiness to help.

Earlier, during a press conference at the scene, Tusk announced that all elements of what happened from the Russian and Ukrainian sides would be examined in detail, alongside all elements of state response to ensure continuous improvement.

Tusk also noted he is in contact with most European leaders, while the United States and Ukraina expressed interest in participating in the investigative proceedings.

Institutional Cooperation and NATO Reaction

The head of government assured that he remains in contact with President Karol Nawrocki regarding the matter and stated there are no issues concerning the cooperation of all state institutions.

Colonel Martin O’Donnell, spokesperson for Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), reported on Thursday that NATO remains in close contact with Polish authorities regarding the airspace violation, adding that the Alliance will take all measures to defend NATO territory.
