New Findings on the Missile That Fell in Poland: Tusk Confirms Russian Origin

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that an armed Kh-101 cruise missile violated Polish airspace and impacted near Lublin during a massive missile strike on Ukraine.

Polish Airspace Violated by Armed Missile

“Last night, during a massive missile attack on Ukraine, one of the Kh-101 cruise missiles violated Polish airspace and fell 50 km from the city of Lublin. The missile was armed. With high probability, it was Russian. I would like to thank all EU and NATO leaders for their solidarity and readiness to provide assistance,” Donald Tusk wrote on Thursday.

District Prosecutor’s Office Confirms Missile Details

Details about the missile were also provided by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin. “We know for sure that we are dealing with a missile. Not a drone, not any Geran, but a missile. Most likely, it is a missile with Kh-101 designations. It contained a significant amount of explosive material,” said the spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, Marcin Kozak, during a press conference.

Investigators are examining the explosion site, where a crater approximately 10 meters wide and 5 meters deep was formed. Experts are securing debris, missile elements, and collecting soil samples. “It is primarily about the presence of explosives, as well as other specific substances that occur in a specific type of explosive charges,” the prosecutor said. The spokesperson reported that “the evidentiary material will be sent to experts from the Military Gendarmerie laboratory in order to have full and final knowledge of what type of air asset we are dealing with.”

Services Conduct Operations Near Lublin

About 50 soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces arrived at the site to assist in combing the area. Earlier, the area was mapped by a drone. The Ukrainian side, which offered its support, will also participate in the inspection of this location. An expert from Ukraine is on the way to Tarnawa-Kolonia to help Polish services identify the object found in this town.

Prosecutorial activities are scheduled to conclude on Thursday before dusk. The investigation by the Military Division of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin is being conducted in the direction of violating Polish airspace and causing a disaster in air traffic.

Unidentified Object Detected by Operational Command

On Thursday at 3:40 AM, an unidentified object was detected in Polish airspace. The probable location of its fall was located near the town of Tarnawa-Kolonia, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported on Thursday.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk went to the Lublin Voivodeship in the morning, convening a coordination group with the participation of the Minister of National Defense and appropriate services, which—as the head of government noted—”have been working at the scene for many hours and systematically transmitting information about all its circumstances.” The head of government reported that everything indicates we are dealing with a Russian ballistic missile, and the military was ready to shoot down the projectile if it continued its flight.
