New ZUS Pensioner ID Cards Arriving July 2026

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy has confirmed that Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) pensioner and disability ID cards will adopt a new, more secure design starting July 13, 2026.

Regulatory Changes and Implementation Schedule

Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk signed the regulation on June 19, 2026, officially updating the standards for pensioner and disability ID cards. While the new legislation takes effect on July 1, 2026, ZUS will continue issuing existing card stock until July 12 to ensure a smooth transition. New-format documents will enter circulation on July 13, 2026.

Eligibility and Mandatory Replacement

The new design does not require existing cardholders to exchange their documents. Current IDs remain fully valid, and there is no need for current pensioners or retirees to submit applications for a new version. The updated cards will only be issued to first-time recipients or those requesting a replacement due to loss or damage.

Enhanced Security and Document Standards

The updated ID cards serve as third-category public documents, necessitating stricter security protocols. The new design features improved forgery resistance, including professional lamination and enhanced security markers. These changes remain strictly aesthetic and security-focused; they do not alter the legal rights of beneficiaries or the underlying benefits provided by ZUS.

Digital Integration

Pensioners and disabled beneficiaries may continue to use the electronic version of the document, known as mLegitymacja, which has been accessible via the mObywatel mobile application since 2023. The transition to the new physical card format does not impact the functionality of this digital service.
