North Praga Police Arrest 64-Year-Old Arsonist Following Rubbish Bin Fire

Criminal investigators in North Praga have arrested a 64-year-old local resident suspected of setting fire to a bin enclosure on July 4, which resulted in significant damage to two nearby vehicles.

The Incident and Damages

On July 4, shortly before 9:00 AM, a fire broke out at a bin enclosure located at the intersection of Siedlecka and Wołomińska streets in North Praga. The blaze completely destroyed plastic waste containers and damaged two parked cars: a Toyota and a Mercedes. Firefighters were unable to determine the cause of the fire on-site.

The damage included melted rear lights, damaged paintwork on the wheel arches, and a broken license plate frame on the Mercedes. An administrative representative estimated the total financial loss at 30,000 PLN.

Investigation and Arrest

Patrol officers identified a witness who provided crucial information, while police later conducted an inspection with a fire safety expert. Investigators analyzed surveillance footage and utilized their knowledge of the local area to identify the 64-year-old suspect, who had a prior criminal record.

The man was arrested at his home several days later and interrogated on Friday. He now faces a charge of destruction of property through arson, which carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.

Legal Oversight

The case is currently under the supervision of the Warsaw-Praga North District Prosecutor’s Office. Police have completed the procedural requirements and formally presented the charges to the suspect.
