Investigation into Surveillance Allegations
Miros艂aw Wr贸blewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO), announced on Wednesday, June 24, that the institution will inspect data protection measures at the Southern Hospital. The decision follows reports from Kana艂 Zero regarding alleged GDPR violations.
TV Republika previously reported that the hospital鈥檚 camera system was equipped with high-sensitivity microphones capable of recording whispers, including potential conversations in operating rooms, which the outlet described as illegal surveillance.
Malpractice and Mismanagement Claims
On Tuesday, former Southern Hospital employee Dr. Emil J臋drzejewski alleged in an interview with Kana艂 Zero that medical procedures at the emergency department were performed improperly, resulting in complications and, in some cases, patient fatalities.
The interview followed a June 15 report stating that Dawid Kacprzyk, while serving as the hospital鈥檚 emergency department coordinator and a local councillor, allegedly earned 1.6 million PLN in medical facilities last year. Reports also suggested that Coalition Omitted (KO) politicians were admitted without queues for comprehensive examinations.
The current department head, Dr. Piotr Szenk, denied these claims, stating he has observed no such practices and that the department functioned correctly. He emphasized that operational management was handled by Dr. Adam Macech.
Legal and Administrative Fallout
Two investigations were launched on Monday concerning the hospital: one regarding fraud exceeding half a million PLN and another involving the abuse of authority by a public official, specifically regarding triage procedures.
Dawid Kacprzyk resigned from his membership in the KO party and his council seat. He also returned 500,000 PLN to the hospital, which the facility had previously paid him but could not account for. Warsaw鈥檚 mayor has since dismissed the hospital’s management board and supervisory council.
Beyond municipal and prosecutor oversight, the Ministry of Health has ordered inspections at the Southern Hospital and the Mazovian Br贸dnowski Hospital. Media reports indicate Kacprzyk also worked at the Br贸dnowski facility, allegedly logging 732 hours in 125 days.
