PiS Orders Members to Quit Associations Within Seven Days

The Law and Justice (PiS) leadership has mandated that all party members resign from political associations within one week, threatening expulsion for those who fail to sign a declaration of compliance.

Deadline for resignation

PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek announced on Wednesday, July 15, that party leadership has banned internal associations to maintain ideological and organizational unity. All members, including parliamentarians and MEPs, must formally resign from such organizations within seven days.

Members are required to sign a declaration confirming they are not involved in groups conducting political activities. Failure to submit this document will result in the initiation of procedures to exclude the individual from the party.

Targeting Morawiecki and Sasin

Bochenek specifically identified Mateusz Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” and Jacek Sasin’s “Po Pierwsze Polska” as political in nature. These groups are now subject to the ban, and their members must formally withdraw.

Morawiecki was absent from the political committee meeting where the resolution was passed. While reports suggest his planned July 31 barbecue might be cancelled, other sources indicate he intends to maintain the association and proceed with the event.

A shift in internal strategy

This decision marks a significant reversal from a previous compromise between Jarosław Kaczyński and Morawiecki. The party president had previously stated that Morawiecki’s association would operate within the party to help the organization function with “two lungs,” appealing to both conservative voters and those seeking government stability.

The party previously threatened that politicians who did not resign from their associations would be removed from electoral lists, before later incorporating those members into the PiS Expert Council. The current move signals a hardening of the party’s stance on internal fragmentation.
