A Proposed Independent Oversight Body
Jarosław Kaczyński has introduced a legislative proposal to establish a social trust commission, distinct from traditional parliamentary investigative committees. This body is intended to be entirely apolitical and would operate independently of state organs.
The commission would consist of 15 members, including three legal specialists, and would be granted broad powers to access medical documentation. Its primary mandate is to uncover the truth behind events at the Southern Hospital and other healthcare facilities across the country.
Allegations of Malpractice and Misconduct
Reports suggest that the Southern Hospital became the site of a funeral business operation, with allegations that the morgue coordinator directed bereaved families to specific funeral homes and shared graphic images of bodies online. PiS politician Przemysław Czarnek described the hospital’s management as a source of unprecedented pathology.
Czarnek also criticized the hospital’s emergency department oversight, linking administrative failures to patient deaths. He argued that the scale of these issues necessitates an independent investigation rather than one led by political rivals.
The Dawid Kacprzyk Controversy
The scandal centers on Dawid Kacprzyk, a former emergency coordinator and local councilor, who allegedly earned 1.6 million PLN in a year by working over 3,900 hours. The facility was also accused of maintaining an unofficial admission pathway for Civic Coalition politicians and their families.
In response to these revelations, Kacprzyk resigned from his party and council seat, while the hospital terminated his contract and municipal authorities dismissed the facility’s board of directors.
