Beginning of the Mission in Brussels
Poland has a new representative to NATO and the EU. One of the most important nominations in the Polish military has become a reality as Lt. Gen. Piotr Błazeusz officially took up his duties as the Polish Military Representative to the NATO and European Union Military Committees.
General Błazeusz, one of the most experienced officers of the Polish Armed Forces, received his appointment from Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in April, and assumed the position at the beginning of August.
Role of the NATO and EU Military Committees
The NATO and EU Military Committees are the highest military bodies within the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, comprising high-ranking military representatives from the member states of both international organizations.
In both cases, the Military Committees serve as the connecting link between the highest political authorities of the EU and NATO and military organs such as international commands or individual national armed forces.
Three Decades of Service: Commander, Diplomat, Instructor
Lt. Gen. Piotr Błazeusz is one of the most experienced Polish generals, serving as the former deputy of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and former commander of the Eurocorps, with a military career spanning over three decades.
His extensive operational and strategic career includes commanding the X change of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan, serving as a deputy defense attaché in Washington, and holding key leadership roles at SHAPE, alongside executing over 500 parachute jumps.
Acknowledgments for the Outgoing General
General Błazeusz succeeds Gen. Sławomir Wojciechowski in Brussels, with the General Staff expressing gratitude to Gen. Wojciechowski for four years of responsible service during a particularly demanding period for European security.
The General Staff thanked the outgoing representative for professionally representing the interests of the Polish Armed Forces, building relations with allies, and contributing to strengthening Poland’s international military standing.
