Poland Braces for Severe Storms and Heatwaves

Meteorologists have issued widespread weather alerts across Poland, warning of extreme temperatures reaching 32°C and intense thunderstorms accompanied by potential hail starting Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

Storm Warnings Across the Country

First-degree storm warnings are in effect for parts of the Lower Silesian province and a vast area extending from Bielsko-Biała to the Świętokrzyskie and Lubelskie regions. The IMGW estimates a 70 percent probability of these storms, which are expected to occur between 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Thursday.

Escalating Heatwave Alerts

Second-degree heat warnings cover a broad path from western Poland through the West Pomeranian, Greater Poland, Masovian, and Łódź regions, extending to Lublin and Tarnobrzeg. These alerts are active from 1:00 PM Thursday until 8:00 PM Friday.

Temperature Forecasts

Temperatures will hit approximately 30°C on Thursday, rising to 32°C on Friday, with nighttime lows between 16°C and 19°C. While the south and center face heat and storms, the northeast is expected to remain clear and dry, according to IMGW forecasts with an 80 percent confidence level.

Recent Storm Impact

Severe weather over the last 24 hours impacted several provinces, specifically Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, Podkarpackie, and Lubelskie. The Government Security Centre issued alerts yesterday as the State Fire Service reported over 600 emergency interventions to address damage caused by the storms.
